My Space Proxy

Ultimate Web Space Tools for any Skill Level

Basiaclly I’m wanting start my own web page (business) and just need to know how to get started.

I know I need to get a domain name. Where?

Can I pay for a doamin name with Pay pal? I don’t have a credit card.

I have lots of web space at Comcast (My ISP). Can I use that or do I need to use something else?

What’s the easiest program to use to build a page with?

I would like it to look similar to this —-> http://www.dvdavenue.tv/themes/cartoon.html

Nothing major, probably just that main page(to start off with) and not all the multiple pages until probably later after I know what I’m doing.

And with the ability for the person to buy items using credit card or pay pal.

Is there something special you have to have to be able to do that?

If someone could just steer me in the right direction then I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
I want the domain to be www.thesitename.com and not some generic www.comcast.net/thesitename
I will be selling DVDs

You can get a domain name here ate godaddy.com: http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp?location=www%2Egodaddy%2Ecom%2F

Is there any software or tools that would assist in web design? I’d like a way to easily plan out the steps I need to take in order to finish my web site. Currently I have no system of planning and am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Are there any tools to make the planning process easier? Thanks!

Hi,

I’m into software, technology and programming. I’m wanted to get more exposure into the market and thus wanted to showcase my resent work online in the form of a portfolio. My work generally includes programming scripts, sample programs, templates, articles, etc.

Now the question arise that how can I host my work online? I don’t have a web space, or website to post my work to. Can anyone please suggest me some FREE and SECURE server or web space, where I can host my work, and also distribute the links to the prospective employers.

Thanks.

I don’t recommend free hosting. it’s very unreliable, you don’t have your own address, like www.something.com or www.something.in and it looks very amateurish to anyone who visits your site.

If you’re from India I recommend http://www.hosttell.com/one They are one of the leading European hosting companies, and they currently have a promotion in India. They are offering free hosting and a domain (I think you have to pay about €10 setup fee and that’s it). Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor, Google Adwords coupon (so you can advertise your website on google for free) and a lot more. This way you will have a real website with a real domain name. Check them out.

P.S. They are running this promotion in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and India so if you’re from one of these countries you can get really cheap web hosting.

Hello,

I would like to add a drawing feature to my web site where people can create network diagrams, plot points on a map etc. Can anyone suggest any Web Based Drawing/Design tools that I could use that are free?

Thanks
Hi i have looked at gliffy but it requires a licence(you have to pay) and it is also hosted on their own site. That sumo looks interesting but i am looking for something aimed at more technical diagrams than painting. Thanks

Hello,

I heard about this interesting one : http://www.gliffy.com/

But i never tried it as we use Visio in my company.

Cheers

I am a wowway cable subscriber and was given 10mb of free webspace. I have activated the site. I also have the ws_ftp program that I am using to transfer files to the site. Everything appears to be working just fine - except that nothing is showing up on the page. Wowway says they do not provide support. I really don’t know where to turn. So - HEEEELLLLLPPPPPPP!

Switch to http://www.lbshosting.info their free account includes 50mb of free space and all the uploads are instant. And Online Help and FAQs are available 24/7

I am about to create a clan website and i need my site to have a very good web design tool
It is for COD4

I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/

Powweb is on a 50% sale - $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.

Godaddy doesn’t offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you’re buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment.

I’m learning CSS and and trying to get it to display on my browser. I’ve not transferred the files with any FTP program or anything because I don’t have web space and I just want to see it on my local browser. The HTML changes appear (like if I change the BG Color and the Alternate Text for the IMG) but the pictures will not. I’ve included the computer address (C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq\My Documents\My Pictures\PictureName.jpg) but nothing appears. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong and how to fix it?
Here is what I have so far:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">

body
{background-color:#ffffff;
background-image:url(’Images\NMNlogoxx.jpg’);
background-repeat:repeat-x;
background-attachment:fixed;
}
</style>
</head>

<body>

</body>
</html>

If you’re trying to view the site on a local computer (Assuming there is no php,python,perl,asp) then all you should need to do is set your relative paths.

Example:

Folder Layout:
/ (Root of the Website)
|_Images (Folder)
|_Includes (Folder)
|_CSS (Folder)
|_index.html (HTML/PHP/ASP Page)

So your file paths in this case for images would be <img src="Images/pretty.gif" alt="Pretty Picture" />

If you use absolute paths, it won’t work. <img src="C:\boat.gif" alt="Big Boat" />, This is because the browser really doesn’t know where C:\ is in comparison to the index.html page.

I hope this answered your question, if not please feel free to contact me at

What web sites do provide you with the tools for designing your own web site for free?

The easiest way for a novice to build a web site is to start with a web template. Web Templates can be customized and you can use the layout but swap the graphics etc…. this will get you comfortable with basic HTML design and an HTML editor (like Dreamweaver).

Here are some resources for free or inexpensive templates that are easy to edit and manage.

Webmaster Templates - http://www.webmaster-templates.net
Free Web Templates - http://www.freewebtemplates.com/
Web Design Elements - http://www.webdesign-elements.com
Free Website Templates - http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/
Free Layouts - http://www.freelayouts.com/
Free Templates Online - http://www.freetemplatesonline.com

HTML website templates can significantly ease the burden of designing and creating websites by providing webmasters with a ready-made web layout, structure, basic graphics, and color scheme.

The templates can generally be edited and customized with any HTML editor. The biggest advantage for webmasters using ready-made templates is the amount of time that can be saved.

If i am surfing the web or playing an online game and it’s veyr slow i’d like to be able to find out which program is using all the bandwidth, is there a program that can do this?
Dan, that does not tell me which programs are clogging up the internet.

What do you mean programs? They are Web sites and there are millions of them!

95% of your problem is your broadband supply. What’s coming through the outside wall, which you have no control of.

Fact of life!

I have worked for 2-3 years solely as a print designer (postcards, business cards, brochures, flyers) — but I want to expand my skill base as a graphic designer by learning how to do web design (it also happens to pay much more handsomely). I can make graphics and pictures for a website fairly easily, but when it comes to the tools and coding needing to actually create a site, I’m a bit lost. What tools/lessons are there that I should use? (If you can please suggest free/open source programs)

you can start with a basic one like doing it in frontpage or dreamweaver then later on you can do further more study in css code there are online tutorial for doing the css code. frontpage are easy for the beginners.
