Working/studying in Germany?

Hey everyone! This is quite a strange question and something I was just wondering. I really enjoy spending time in Germany, especially the Köln region. I’m currently living in London, I’m 27 and I’ve graduated University with a Degree in Multimedia Computing. Earlier this year I left a position I had for 3 years as a Web Designer for a College in NW England. I’m actively trying to learn to speak German but I wondered what options I would have to find some work/study (or whatever) in Germany. I left my old job as I wanted to take a year out and do something completely different, i.e. not necessarily a Web Designer. I’ve extremely IT savvy so I guess that could open some doors for further training etc? I speak basic German but I’m worried that I need to speak fluent to get something out there. Summer would be a great time for me but to be fair I would be happy to go out there anytime.

Can anyone offer me any advice?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it

Regards

If you are EU citizen you will have not too much trouble allthough you need to be fluent in German to get a decent job you can live on here.
I would recomend a language course preferedly in Germany itself and look for the job afterwards.

Why don’t you contact a university’s international office in the region where you wanna go? The level of German you need to speak really depends on the region and they will know best.

Good thing is you don’t have to worry about any visas etc (EU;-) )

Enjoy! And drink a "Kölsch" for me when you’re in Köln

    Hey!

You can try to get a job at a university. At my uni they are always looking for some IT-Freaks… The language wouldn´t be the problem. You could do some German courses at university.

Good luck and enjoy your time in Köln!

Germany is great. I speak from experience. I studied German in university for 1 year, then I did a summer (5) week program that required little language skills - It was in Hessen, the International summer university (ISU) and i learned so much german from that, because I had to use it. I would try to go there for school. That way you can learn german, and learn something also that you are interested in and make business connections.
