Ultimate Web Space Tools for any Skill Level

Web page, domain names, startup, and web hosting?

So let's stay optimistic here… I will be the next dot com millionaire. My idea is fresh and will be very rewarding. I'd like to start by acquiring my domain name. I will obviously have to pay a site for web hosting. What site offers the best rates for the most space? What is the best web page design program out there? Just looking for some cold hard facts on starting up and delivering a quality web page. Thanks in advance.

There are many web hosting providers and you might become confused to choose which one. It is very important that you choose a good web host. Good doesn't mean expensive. Good means reliable with great support. When you choose a web host, make sure they have excellent support. If you have a problem with your web site you want help now, not in a day or two.

It can be confusing when choosing a web hosting company because they all look pretty much the same and they seem like they know what they are doing. However, I recommend reading reviews from reliable websites so that you may compare and become more familiar with the hosting companies before making a decision. I am a web designer and I have changed back and forth from many companies over the years but my favorite one is FatCow. I am moving all my websites to them as the contracts expire.

So let's be very general here…

A site like GoDaddy can register your domain name for you. For hosting and design programs, it kind of depends on what language you are going to use. Dreamweaver is really versatile as a program to code the pages. For hosting you need to make sure that the hosting service can handle whatever language you decide to program in.

I set up a start-up website by registering the domain with GoDaddy and doing hosting through HostFolio and total start-up cost on that for a year was around $200. Keep in mind, that's just for the services that has nothing to do with paying any developers.

  9. Niche S Says:

Before you make any decisions, it's important that you know what you'll need in web hosting provider:
For example, if you plan to host a web-based community forum, you'll probably need a web hosting provides PHP and an SQL database.

If, you're planning on running ASP, or .NET applications, you need a server running Windows rather than a UNIX or Linux.

No matter how cheap a web hosting is, if it's not working, then you're paying too much. Before you sign with a web hosting provider ask around for reviews about their service. A hosting service MUST be 100% reliable. A web hosting service that can't keep your site available and online will only lose your business and money.
